Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Q: What style is your wedding photography?

A:  I’m one of the last true wedding photojournalists left in the world.  You can read more about that HERE

Q: How many photos will we receive?

A:  Every wedding is different and therefore every couple receives a different number of fully edited photos.  A safe estimate to use though is 60 deliverable photos/hour of shooting.  This does not account for any time between location changes.

Q: Do we receive every photo you take?

A:  No, you receive every photo that comes out, edited and delivered in your final gallery.  I will take a lot of photos, especially of the moments we talk about down the road.  You’re not missing anything in the photos you don’t receive, they are eyes blinking, quadruple chins, looks like you’re picking your nose, just bad, photos.  I’m not staging or posing you outside of the portrait/formal photos.  So there will be some bad photos/looks in there.  But don’t worry, I’m shooting through these moments to make sure I get the perfect look for you in that moment, those are all delivered to you.  You don’t want to see the others!

Q: Do you offer Videography?

A:  Yes! Video coverage starts at $2800 and you can find more info about that HERE

Q: Do you offer Engagement Sessions?

A:  Yes!  Engagement and adventure sessions can be purchased A la Carte.  If you’re interested in learning more details reach out or ask me during our consult.  Engagement sessions last around 60-90 minutes and include 50-60 fully edited photos.  An adventure session page is in the works, in the meantime inquire for details.

Q: Do you have insurance?

A:  Yes! I’m fully covered and able to provide your venue with a COI upon request

Q: Are the photos we receive edited?

A:  Everything you receive is edited the same way as the photos you see on this website.  All the photos on the website are actually taken straight out of couples wedding galleries!  They aren’t edited specially for the website like you’ll see on some other sites.

Q: Do we receive a copyright release?

A:  All wedding collections include a personal use copyright release.  This means you can do anything you’d like with your photos from printing to sharing with friends on social media.  The only thing you can’t do is sell them.

Q: Will JD be the one photographing my wedding?

A:  Yes!  JD photographs every wedding that Salt & Sonder Studio is contracted for.

Q: What if something catastrophic happens to JD?

A:  Knock on wood, this won’t ever happen.  But if it does, I’m part of a network of the best photographers in the United States.  We literally have a secret facebook group to make it official.  If anything happens to someone, everyone that is available in the group steps up to help out and you’d get a list of some of the best photographers out there.  You’d pick my replacement from them.  I’ve never had to use this before to fill in for myself, but I have helped other photographers in trouble and it works great!

Equipment Questions

Q: What equipment do you use?

A:  I use professional Sony cameras and lenses, including a9’s, a7riii’s, and G-Master series lenses.  Everything is serviced and maintained by Sony Pro Support.

Q: Do you have backup equipment?

A:  Yes!  I have enough equipment to photograph 2, possibly 3, weddings at the same time.  Not that it’s possible, but I could if you just needed the gear and not a clone.

Artwork and Deliverables

Q: How long after the wedding will we receive our photos?

A:  8-12 weeks is the timeframe for delivery.  If it can be done quicker it will happen, it has never taken longer though.  Everything is still edited by JD so with that much personal attention paid to each photograph it does take some time.  Your patience is always appreciated!

Q: Will we see any previews?

A:  Yes.  Previews are posted on social media for you sporadically leading up to delivery of the entire gallery.

Q: How will we receive our photos?

A:  Every couple is invited to the home office in Marlton, NJ for a customized REVEAL.  During that time you’ll see a highlight slideshow of the day as well as a preliminary album design to help you get started.  If you can’t make it to the home office it’s no problem, you’ll receive an email link to your gallery and still receive the link to the highlight slideshow as well.

Q: Do you offer albums?

A:  Yes!  I offer highly exclusive albums, reserved for the top 100 photographers in the country.  These albums are truly one of a kind and are included in most collections.  You can read all about them HERE.

Q: Do we get to pick the photos for our album?

A:  100%, but I’m there to help you every step of the way.  A lot of couples will do a rough “favorites” list narrowing it down to 150-250 photos.  From there I can create a design you two can work from and/or you can come back into the home office where I will finalize the design with you.

Q: I noticed the album comes with the first 50 or 60 photos included, can we add more?

A:  The first 50 photos covers all the major events of the day.  If you really want to show off your wedding day story in the album, and all those in between moments that most of my couples love.  Then additional photos can be purchased.  You can check out the album page above for more info on adding photos.

Q: Do you offer prints and wall art?

A:  Yes!  You can purchase the best quality prints on the market directly through your online gallery, up to 11×14 sizes.  Larger sizes and epic wall art pieces are available and JD will cover all of that with you leading up to the wedding day and during the reveal.

Payments and Contracts

Q: How do we book our date?

A:  To lock in your date, all that’s required is an electronically signed contract and a 25% retainer payment.

Q: If the wedding is cancelled can we get a refund on our retainer payment?

A:  No.  Once you sign the contract and make your retainer payment, I stop taking inquiries for that date.  If the wedding is cancelled that date becomes a 75% income loss for Salt & Sonder Studio.  Therefore retainers are non-refundable.

Q: If the wedding is rescheduled can we apply our retainer to the new date?

A:  No.  Once you sign the contract and make your retainer payment, I stop taking inquiries for that date.  If the wedding is cancelled that date becomes a 75% income loss for Salt & Sonder Studio.  Therefore retainers are non-refundable.  However, with reschedules, if you still retain Salt & Sonder Studio for your new date and your original date is rebooked, the retainer payment will be applied to the balance on your new date.

Q: What if something like the 2020 Covid-19 Outbreak occurs?

A:  In a situation like that, where things are beyond anyone’s control, I worked with couples on rescheduling dates.  As long as we were able to find a new date that I was available for, I waived the rescheduling clause in the contract and all payments were applied to the new date, with zero penalties.  I do my best to work with couples as we are all humans and that situation was beyond tough on everyone equally.  But I am still a business and I do still need to protect myself.  I do that with the contract my lawyers created.  That contract cannot be changed to account for something like this.  If you need references to show what I would do for you in a situation like that, I’m happy to put you in touch with couples who went through the pandemic with me as their photographer and had to reschedule.

Q: Is there a travel fee?

A:  Travel fee’s are required for anything over 50 miles from Marlton, New Jersey.  Travel fee’s are $100 for 50-100 miles & $250 for 100-150 miles.  Anything further than that inquire for details.  There is also a flat $100 travel fee for weddings in the city of Philadelphia.  This covers parking and tolls for myself, assistants, and 2nd photographers.
